I think it's a great idea. It's a chance to celebrate the democratic process of rule by the majority and emphasizes the importance of voting.Yes or No: Would you be in favor of repealing Columbus Day and making Voting Day a national paid holiday?
Yes.
Excellent idea. Very democratic. Very American.Yes or No: Would you be in favor of repealing Columbus Day and making Voting Day a national paid holiday?
Yes, 100 times YES!
Great Idea!! either that or employers could offer ';vote leave'; get a paid day off if you bring a note from the election site... like a Dr's note for a sick day... just an idea...
No I do not agree with taking away a little bit of our history and heritage a little bit at a time.
I think you've got something, by jove. Yes. Yes indeed.
NOPE
I agree with that.
In my college town they used to hold city council elections on the days of commencement...making it almost impossible for prospective students who wanted to sit in on city council. The thing is...the student body population constituted over half of the entire local population. Imagine what could be done with the power in the students hands!
not just yes but hell yes! Which CLASS of people might be held back on a WORKING election day? and just might not make it to the polls...besides the first americans came from the alaskan land bridge in the end of the last ice age...the first Europeans to land were Vikings and we're named after Amerigo Verspucci and he doesn't have a day...Columbus wasn't even employed by England
I don't get holidays no matter what, so the idea is less than exciting to me.
I don't get Columbus Day off, paid or not. No big deal...but to get Election Day off PAID ? Ridiculous ! Voting is your right, a reponsibility, and good men died to preserve that right for all. You don't vote, you got no right to ***** !
I will agree with moving Election Day...to April 16th. Then the clowns in office who jack up our taxes would really see the power of the people.
As a veteran if 3 tours of duty with the USMC, I do go to cemeteries on Vet's and Memorial Day...3 of them on both holidays.
No, but I do think it should be mandatory for employers to give staged time off to go vote.
How about holding elections on Saturday. That way there is no excuse for not voting.
Well, unfortunately just for a national holiday the country doesn't stop. Hospitals, hotels, restaurants, farms, etc. all keep running. That's why there are write in ballots as well as extended voting hours in many places.
I don't think most people will take the day as a sign to vote, but rather as a day off to shop at a sale or party hard the night before. Just like all the other so called ';let's honor our country with a day off'; holiday. How many people do you know go to a veterans cemetery on Veteran's or Memorial day?
