Is making a child hold their pee a good punishment?

My friend does this with her children. If they do something bad she does not let them go to the bathroom one hour per age of the child. She only uses it on the kids over 7. If they wet their pants they have to start over. They also have to drink a glass tea before the punishment begins. She says it works great for her is and thinks I should try it. What do you think?Is making a child hold their pee a good punishment?

Oh my gosh. No, thats bad. If you hold it in then some acid can go into your stomach and you can get bladder problems when you are older.

No! That is stupid. I don't think I could hold my pee 7 hours long, and I'm 30 years old. She should stop this now. Does she want her kids having bladder and kidney problems? Did she ever hear of the women who died from holding her pee too long? It was a contest to win a Wii on a radio station. I think this is wrong and if it contiues to happen, report her.

good grief and you think this might be a good idea for your own child?? please dont! they are gonna have serious problems with their urinary tract when they get older..especially being so young and having to do that..and her making them drink a glass of tea before hand too?? that is most definitely abuse and if that is the kind of sadistic, psychotic parent she is, she does need to be investigated and the children need to be removed! thats just cruel and mean! im not tryin to judge or anything, but why would you even consider this punishment for you own kids??
No that is more torture than a punishment, it is plain mean. A child should be allowed to you a restroom as needed. Making a child hold there pee and letting them wet themselves is only making them feel self conscious and unsure of themselves.
No! Your friend is abusive and is ruining the mental state of her children. They will grow up grown people traumatized and mabey wetting their selves at 35. Punish them by withholding treats, movies, candy, parties, etc-you know what makes them happy. Let them pee please.


If you let this go on, then you are only prolonging a child's suffering. God is looking to you to stop their suffering=Turn her in!
i know she's your friend, but she has some serious issues if she thinks this is ok. it is not ok. something needs to be done
NO, that is not a good punishment. Seriously, holding it in is bad for your bladder (it's waste that your body is designed to get rid of), plus it's a humiliation tactic (since they can pee themselves).





If my friend said that she does this to her children, I wouldn't be wondering if I should try it, I'd be wondering if I should call CAS.

I think she should just put them on the naughty step. Punishments like that will give them psychological issues when they are older. That really is bad. Really quite cruel.

I'd talk to her first, but if this dosnt change you need to contact someone. I hate when people call CPS and such but this is one time I would if she dosnt come up with something else. This is dangerous, it can cause kidney problems and even kidney stones. Women who have them tell you it's twice as painful as unmedicated childbirth, does she want to inflict that on her kids; if so she dosnt deserve them.
OMG, NO NO NO NO, please do not try this and tell her to stop not only can she be giving her kids a UTI (urinary track infection) but this can also damage the kidneys. this is a horrible punishment it would be like being pregnant in your 8th month just got up in the morning and someone told you you can not pee for 1 hour you know damn well your gonna pee yourself. can you hold your pee for 6 hours? how do you think a child of 7 can do this!!!!

No - this is not punishment, this is abuse. Think about it - this means they have to hold their pee for SIX hours at the very least. I can't imagine how they DON'T wet their pants!





How would your friend like it if she was made to hold her pee for one hour per her age? She wouldn't like it - and she would pee her pants too. Similarly, she should not be torturing her children in the same way.

No. It can stretch their bladder and cause infections.
That's cruelty, and potentially dangerous. Uremia is toxic; a ruptured bladder can be fatal. Making them drink first is simply setting them up for failure so that she can punish them further; this is nothing short of SADISTIC. She needs to be reported to Child Protective Services.
This is one of the worse things that I have ever heard of. Report her, the problems that she can be causing are many.
This is CHILD ABUSE. Don't be too surprised when these kids have problems holding or starting urine later in life.


And don't be too surprised if they hate their mother, either.

Sounds like she is trying to give them a bladder infection. 2 months ago I had a bladder infection that spread to my left kidney and I needed to be hospitalized for a few days. They wouldn't discharge me until my white blood cell count went down. I was then given 10 days of potent antibiotics that had the side effect of all foods tasting funny and I forever had nausea. The only good thing that came out of it was that I lost 12 pounds in less than 2 weeks.





Hope your friend has good health insurance. She's going to need it.
